Barbara Wallace

Barbara Wallace’s involvement in the not-for-profit sector has ranged from leadership roles on
governing boards to grant writing and hands-on work with refugees. She served on the Growing
Home (growinghomeinc.org) Board of Directors where she served as Secretary, led a Feasibility
Study, and co-chaired an executive search. During her decade at Growing Home, the
organization increased its individual giving fivefold. She led the Famous Door Theatre Board in
the theatre’s final years and worked on small grants funding in Los Angeles through the Liberty
Hill Foundation. A former actor, she has worked professionally as a television and stage writer,
as a theatre director, and now teaches as an adjunct at Northwestern. She is interested in social
justice issues and the arts and loves all the neighborhoods in Chicago.
